I will be going to France

Bonjour! In a few short weeks I will be traveling solo in France for ten days, including our three-year anniversary (I am a terrible girlfriend) and then I will be participating in a river restoration course and field camp with colleagues from graduate school.

The ticket was the most expensive of my life. I guess flying from the west coast to Europe in June was never going to be cheap. The price jumped $90-250 overnight and I decided it was high time to pull the trigger.

Any suggestions on places to visit and things to see would be most welcome! The real question is will I take Quatchi? I think even in my most basic French I can answer: bien sur! My favorite French phrase so far: à toute à l'heure!

Faces Robots and Loons

I think that my doodles, from time to time are somewhat appropriate here:

The Faces were a great British Blues band. Rod Stewart before he went all soft rock. Highly Recommended.

Miyazaki's work is great. Artificial Intelligence, when it happens probably won't be that artificial, and it will be human, too.

In this picture a lazy rendition of Sylvester and Tweety, Marvin the Martian, Bugs Bunny and Daffy both in space suits, Elmer Fudd, Wile E. Coyote, and the RoadRunner:
The Curl makes an appearance in the upper left hand corner.

One year since Hong Kong and Beyong!

We flew away to Hong Kong one year ago today. This is the first picture I took in Hong Kong on the bus from the airport to the Chungking Mansions. Over the next three and a half months we will follow ourselves through our year-old calendars on a voyage of nostalgia.

If only Quatchi had come along for our travels in Asia....

Quatchi goes back to Reno!!!!!!!

Quatchi packs up!

Off we go in Shelley's Vibe!

SNREd's reunite!
We are ready for adventure.

To Pyramid Lake!

This lake looks Quatchi-sized.

Watch out for the elusive Quatch-horned sheep!

Careful with that prickly greasewood, Quatchi!

Ah, nothing like hot sand on your butt.

Ah! Quatch-zilla can squish you with his mittened thumb...

A once-again normal-sized Quatchi hangs out in the giant tufa.

Shelley goes where no Quatchi has gone before.

Quatchi botanizes...

And is attacked by tumbleweeds...

Time to get out of here!

Back in downtown Reno by the beautiful Truckee River...

Danger still lurks around every corner, such as foot entrapment!

And terrifying baby statues!

And too many beers!

No adventure with Quatchi would be complete without overindulgence.

And inappropriateness...
Even though you look good in heels, Quatchi, you are not allowed at Ladies Night.

Thanks, Amber!
Great weekend and great to see you!!!

Departmental t-shirt design contest

If I had to pick a trademark, it would probably be animals jumping on a trampoline... but this doesn't have too much to do with dying or landscape.

I turned to the cannibal cupcake by Natalie Dee for inspiration. Cannibal plants - either run for your life or learn to use them properly.

We will see if it is a winner among my graduate school colleagues.

Quatchi bottles homebrews!

Quatchi helps bottle our latest creation, Blackberry Brown!

Careful not to spill, Quatchi...

So far so good...

Quatchi gets ready with the capper...

Half way there....

Now on to bottle the Apricot Blonde!

Silly Quatchi....

Good job, Quatchi!!!
(We actually got almost as much beer on the floor as in the bottle, but Quatchi is well on his way to becoming a brewmaster.)

Thanks to Mom and Dad for the Blackberry and Apricot idea!!!
